Audi targets 2030 title as rule debate grows
Audi is reportedly targeting an F1 title challenge by 2030, while Mattia Binotto is also pushing for a rethink on ADUO and future engine rules.
Audi is reportedly aiming to fight for the Formula 1 title by 2030, with Autosport and Motorsport.com both reporting that target from team boss Mattia Binotto. The new Audi entry took Sauber’s place on the 2026 grid and sits ninth in the constructors’ championship after nine rounds with six points, all scored by Gabriel Bortoleto.
Autosport also reported that Binotto wants the FIA to revisit the ADUO power-unit upgrade system after Mercedes was among the manufacturers allowed extra development scope. Mercedes is a German Formula 1 constructor with 138 wins and eight titles across 19 seasons through 2026, which gives context to the gap Audi is trying to close.
On the next rules cycle, Motorsport.com reported that Audi wants future engines to remain highly efficient as Formula 1 and the FIA discuss the post-2030 formula. Autosport further reported that the FIA is considering alternative engine supply options for customer teams from 2031, but no rule change has been confirmed.
