Williams reports point to cost-cap strain in 2026
Reports say Williams is shifting resources from its 2026 car to facility upgrades, with the team ninth on 11 points after 11 rounds.
Motorsport.com reported that Williams is diverting resources away from its 2026 car and into upgrading its Grove facilities as the team works within Formula 1’s cost cap. The outlet said team principal James Vowles had described that trade-off during a difficult season for the team.
The same publication also reported that Williams’ early 2026 campaign was affected by an overweight car and delays to its programme. After 11 rounds, the team was ninth in the constructors’ championship on 11 points, while Carlos Sainz was 15th in the drivers’ standings on six.
In a separate report, Motorsport.com said Alex Albon did not expect a planned Baku upgrade to solve Williams’ wider 2026 problems. According to that report, the team’s focus is increasingly moving toward building a stronger car for 2027.
