2026 British GP: Williams reviews upgrade setback
Reports from Motorsport.com and RaceFans say Williams is reassessing its Silverstone upgrade after it underperformed, with a reset eyed before Belgium.
Williams is reported to be reassessing its development direction after the 2026 British Grand Prix upgrade package underperformed at Silverstone. Motorsport.com reported that team principal James Vowles accepted the update did not bring the expected step and that the weekend exposed further concerns for the Grove team, while RaceFans reported Carlos Sainz said the package had not delivered as expected.
Motorsport.com also reported that Vowles considers Williams’ current development rate too slow for the team’s targets and that a two-week review has begun ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. As context, Sainz sat 15th in the 2026 drivers’ championship on six points; across 241 Formula 1 starts, the Spaniard has four wins, five pole positions and 29 podiums.
