2026 Azerbaijan GP: Williams' Baku upgrade reported

News - 2026-09-28 - By Jenny Marsh

Reports from Formula1.com, Autosport and Motorsport.com say Williams introduced a major Baku update, with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon assessing it after the weekend.

Williams is reported to have introduced a major upgrade package at the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with Formula1.com saying Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon gave their verdict on the changes after the weekend. Because the development has not been confirmed here, its impact should be treated as reported rather than established.

Autosport reported that the Baku package was the large step James Vowles had flagged earlier in the season, describing it as a move toward an almost completely new car. Motorsport.com also reported that Vowles praised the factory effort needed to get the update to Baku, even though Williams left the weekend with one point.

Sainz arrived at the event 17th in the 2026 drivers' championship on seven points. The Spaniard's Formula 1 career record stands at 241 starts, four wins, five pole positions and 29 podiums.
