Tsunoda explains Red Bull's 2025 struggle

Yuki Tsunoda has looked back on his difficult 2025 at Red Bull, with several outlets reporting how he never fully got on top of the car.

Yuki Tsunoda has reflected on why Red Bull’s 2025 Formula 1 car did not suit him. Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that Tsunoda finished 17th in the drivers’ championship alongside Max Verstappen, an unusually low placing for a driver in a front-running team.

RaceFans reported that Tsunoda said he kept trying to understand the car through the season but never fully did. Formula1.com also reported that he returned for a three-race spell with Racing Bulls in 2026 after Isack Hadjar’s injury, replacing Liam Lawson, and that it remains unclear whether he will make a fourth appearance this year.

The Japanese driver, born on 11 May 2000, raced in Formula 1 from 2021 to 2025 and is listed with Red Bull. He is 20th in the 2026 standings on one point, while Red Bull has 130 Grand Prix wins and six constructors’ titles.
