Max Verstappen won the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix from second on the grid, beating Lando Norris by 2.219s to extend his drivers' championship lead.

Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 23 June 2024, finishing 2.219 seconds ahead of Lando Norris. Norris started from pole for McLaren and set the fastest lap on lap 51 with a 1:17.115.

Race

Verstappen started second for Red Bull and won in 1:28:20.227, while Norris took second for McLaren after starting first. Lewis Hamilton finished third for Mercedes at +17.790 from third on the grid, and George Russell followed in fourth at +22.320 from fourth.

Charles Leclerc placed fifth for Ferrari at +22.709 after starting fifth, and Carlos Sainz finished sixth at +31.028 from sixth on the grid. Oscar Piastri gained two places from ninth to seventh for McLaren, while Sergio Pérez climbed from 11th to eighth for Red Bull.

Championship

Pierre Gasly finished ninth for Alpine F1 Team after starting seventh, and Esteban Ocon took 10th from eighth to complete a double points finish for Alpine F1 Team. All 10 listed finishers were classified as Finished.

Verstappen left round 10 leading the drivers' championship on 219 points, with Norris second on 150. Leclerc remained third on 148 points after his fifth-place finish.

Fastest lap

Norris recorded the fastest lap of the race with a 1:17.115 on lap 51. His second place left him 69 points behind Verstappen in the drivers' championship after the Spanish Grand Prix.
