Lando Norris took pole for the Spanish Grand Prix by 0.020s over Max Verstappen, with Mercedes third and fourth and Ferrari on row three.

Lando Norris took pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 23 June 2024, beating Max Verstappen by 0.020s. The McLaren driver set a 1:11.383 in Q3, while Verstappen put Red Bull second with a 1:11.403.

Qualifying

Lewis Hamilton qualified third for Mercedes with a 1:11.701, and George Russell followed in fourth with a 1:11.703. Charles Leclerc secured fifth for Ferrari on a 1:11.731, and Carlos Sainz took sixth in the other Ferrari with a 1:11.736.

Pierre Gasly placed seventh for Alpine F1 Team with a 1:11.857, and Sergio Pérez qualified eighth for Red Bull with a 1:12.061. Esteban Ocon completed the top nine for Alpine F1 Team on a 1:12.125.

Front-row fight

Norris improved from 1:12.386 in Q1 and 1:11.872 in Q2 to claim pole in Q3. Verstappen was quickest of the front row in Q1 with a 1:12.306 and in Q2 with a 1:11.653, but his 1:11.403 in Q3 left him 0.020s short.

Grid

Mercedes locked out the second row with Hamilton third and Russell fourth. Ferrari filled the third row with Leclerc fifth and Sainz sixth, while Oscar Piastri qualified 10th for McLaren after failing to set a Q3 time and ending Q2 in 10th.
