Spanish GP 2026: Leclerc backs Ferrari calls

Charles Leclerc backed Ferrari’s Spanish GP strategy, while Lewis Hamilton said the car could have fought for the win before a brake-related DNF.

Formula1.com reported that Charles Leclerc backed Ferrari’s strategy in the Spanish Grand Prix, saying the team made the right calls after leaving him out front for much of the race. Leclerc, a nine-time Formula 1 winner, is fifth in the 2026 drivers’ championship on 155 points.

The same outlet reported that Lewis Hamilton felt Ferrari had a car capable of fighting for victory before brake problems caused his retirement. Hamilton, third in the standings on 191 points, is in his first Ferrari season after previous spells with McLaren and Mercedes.

Elsewhere, BBC Sport reported after Hungary that Ferrari needed to improve after Leclerc and Hamilton finished fourth and fifth, while BBC Sport and Autosport also reported that the pair had moved on from their Monza controversy. That left Spain as another weekend where Ferrari’s pace, strategy and reliability all drew attention.
