Belgian GP 2026: Spa penalties and steward calls

Spa’s Belgian GP weekend brought grid penalties for Lando Norris, Isack Hadjar and Carlos Sainz, plus key steward decisions on Charles Leclerc and Ferrari.

Spa’s Belgian Grand Prix weekend brought several penalties and steward decisions. BBC Sport reported that Lando Norris received a 10-place grid penalty for exceeding the permitted number of engine parts, while Autosport reported that Isack Hadjar was set to start from the back of the grid after taking a fifth internal combustion engine, turbocharger and exhaust system. Motorsport.com also reported a 10-place grid penalty for Carlos Sainz after additional power unit components were fitted.

In qualifying, Autosport and RaceFans reported that Charles Leclerc lost time after a yellow-flag error on his final Q3 lap, with Leclerc saying it probably cost him one grid position. During the race, Autosport reported that stewards did not penalise Leclerc for contact with Oscar Piastri. Leclerc arrived at Spa fourth in the drivers' championship on 126 points, Norris was fifth on 103, Hadjar eighth on 60 and Sainz 15th on six.

Autosport also reported that Lewis Hamilton kept fourth place after Ferrari was fined 30,000 euros for an unsafe release that struck a mechanic, with the team confirming the mechanic was unhurt. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who led the championship on 204 points heading into Spa, had taken pole position according to BBC Sport and RaceFans.
