2026 British Grand Prix: Leclerc wins at Silverstone
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix as Ferrari reached 250 F1 wins, with a safety-car finish, FIA software error and post-race penalties in focus.
Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with BBC Sport reporting that he finished ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Formula1.com said the result ended Leclerc’s win drought and delivered Ferrari’s 250th Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix victory. Leclerc arrived at Silverstone fourth in the drivers’ championship on 108 points, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli led on 179 and Hamilton was third on 147.
BBC Sport reported that the race finished behind the safety car, while Autosport and RaceFans said the FIA later blamed a software error for messaging that briefly suggested a restart. BBC Sport also reported that Antonelli and Max Verstappen failed to score, despite Antonelli having taken pole position earlier in the weekend and won the sprint on Saturday.
Formula1.com reported that Gabriel Bortoleto converted 11th on the grid into eighth, scoring Audi’s first points since Australia. Autosport, Motorsport.com and RaceFans reported that Carlos Sainz received a post-race penalty for a safety-car unlapping infringement, while Hamilton kept third after a reprimand over a yellow-flag matter. Autosport also reported that Mercedes would not contest Antonelli’s five-second penalty.
