British Grand Prix 2026: Sainz calls upgrade warning
Reports after the 2026 British Grand Prix say Carlos Sainz viewed Williams’ Silverstone upgrade as a warning sign as James Vowles began a reset.
Reports after the British Grand Prix said Carlos Sainz viewed Williams’ Silverstone upgrade as a warning sign for Williams. RaceFans reported that Sainz said the package had not delivered as expected, while Motorsport.com reported that team principal James Vowles also accepted the update fell short of its target.
Motorsport.com further reported that Vowles wanted a reset before the Belgian Grand Prix and had begun a two-week review of the team’s development direction. The same outlet reported that he aimed to “come back swinging” at Spa after a difficult home weekend for the Grove team.
Sainz, a four-time Grand Prix winner, was 15th in the 2026 drivers' championship on six points. Separately, Autosport reported that he received a post-race penalty after Silverstone for incorrectly unlapping himself during a late safety car period.
