Carlos Sainz accepted responsibility after contact with Alex Albon in the Dutch Grand Prix forced his Williams team mate to retire. Formula1.com reported that Sainz blamed himself for the incident, while RaceFans said both Williams drivers apologised after the collision.

Motorsport.com reported that the contact happened four laps from the finish as Albon tried to pass around the outside of Turn 1 at Zandvoort. The same outlet said Sainz received a 10-second penalty, and RaceFans also reported that the stewards penalised the Spaniard.

Sainz was 16th in the 2026 drivers' championship on six points. The Spanish driver has competed in Formula 1 since 2015, entering 241 races with four wins, five poles and 29 podiums.
