2026 Hungarian GP: Norris converts pole into win

Lando Norris took pole by 0.012s and won the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli penalised and Oscar Piastri retiring.

Lando Norris took his first pole position of the 2026 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix and then won his first race of the year. BBC Sport reported that Norris secured pole in Hungary, while Autosport reported that he beat Lewis Hamilton by 0.012s; BBC Sport also said Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli received grid penalties after qualifying.

On Sunday, BBC Sport reported that Norris gave McLaren its first victory of the season. Autosport reported that Norris finished ahead of Max Verstappen and Antonelli, while Oscar Piastri led early before retiring with a gearbox failure.

Norris went into Hungary fifth in the drivers' championship on 128 points, with Hamilton second on 169, Verstappen sixth on 109 and Piastri seventh on 92. As career context, Norris had entered the weekend with 10 wins and 16 poles from 160 Grands Prix for McLaren.
