2026 Belgian Grand Prix: Norris takes grid penalty
Lando Norris will take a 10-place grid penalty for the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix after McLaren changed power unit parts on his car at Spa.
Lando Norris will take a 10-place grid penalty for the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix, with multiple outlets reporting the sanction ahead of the Spa-Francorchamps weekend. Formula1.com said Norris was set for a penalty after taking new power unit elements, while BBC Sport reported the drop would be 10 places.
Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that McLaren fitted new Mercedes power unit components to Norris’s car, and BBC Sport said the penalty followed him exceeding the permitted allocation of engine parts. Norris heads to Belgium fifth in the 2026 drivers’ championship on 97 points.
The McLaren driver, born on 13 November 1999, has entered 161 Grands Prix in Formula 1 and has recorded 11 wins and 16 pole positions. The penalty adds another complication to his weekend as he looks to limit the damage in the championship fight.
