McLaren retro livery joins British GP Lego parade
McLaren will run a 1966-inspired livery at the British Grand Prix, while Autosport reported Formula 1’s Lego drivers’ parade returns at Silverstone.
McLaren will run a 1966-inspired livery for the British Grand Prix, with Formula1.com identifying the Silverstone design as a nod to the team’s early look from that season. The reference points back to founder Bruce McLaren, who competed in Formula 1 from 1958 to 1970, making 103 entries with four wins and 27 podiums.
Autosport also reported that Formula 1 will use Lego minicars for the drivers’ parade lap at Silverstone after the concept appeared in Miami last year. According to Autosport, all 22 drivers will take part in individual minicars built from 28,000 Lego bricks, with a reported top speed of 25km/h.
The British Grand Prix weekend therefore brings together a heritage-themed McLaren design and a separate pre-race fan activation at Silverstone. Formula1.com included McLaren’s latest scheme in its look at retro-inspired Formula 1 liveries, while BBC Sport separately explained McLaren’s "papaya rules" in recent coverage of the team.
