Madrid plans Madring changes after 2026 Spanish GP
Madrid organisers plan changes to the Madring after criticism of its first Spanish Grand Prix, with overtaking and FIA recommendations in focus for 2027.
Madrid organisers plan changes to the Madring after criticism of Formula 1’s first Spanish Grand Prix at the venue, BBC Sport reported. Autosport reported that organisers are ready to tweak the 5.4km circuit around the IFEMA fairgrounds to improve overtaking for 2027, and that they have already received recommendations from the FIA.
The criticism followed the race weekend in Madrid. Autosport reported that drivers had raised concerns about overtaking opportunities and the way the layout raced in Formula 1 trim, while another report from the outlet said teams found more grip than expected on a new circuit and also dealt with high tyre degradation. Autosport also highlighted the effect of the circuit’s unusually long pitlane on strategy.
Reaction has extended beyond the drivers. Motorsport.com reported warnings that the layout should be revised before Formula 1 returns in 2027 after what it described as a processional first race, while the same outlet also reported that some figures in the paddock still believe the event can improve if changes are made.
