Both outlets also said drivers called for changes after the race, and Autosport reported that Max Verstappen had said on Saturday he could not see a single overtaking opportunity. RaceFans described the grand prix as processional, reflecting the wider criticism of the layout.

Coverage of the circuit’s characteristics was mixed. Motorsport.com reported that drivers found a higher-than-expected level of grip but also heavy tyre degradation, while Autosport noted that Formula 2 and Formula 3 races at the IFEMA complex featured several crashes even though Formula 1’s running was more orderly.
