2026 Spanish GP: Madrid track changes reported

BBC Sport and Autosport report Madrid organisers plan circuit changes after the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, with overtaking and pitlane impact under review.

Madrid organisers plan changes to the new circuit used for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, according to BBC Sport. Autosport reported the 5.4km Madring around the IFEMA fairgrounds could be revised to improve overtaking for 2027, and said organisers have already received recommendations from the FIA after the venue’s first race weekend.

The review follows criticism from drivers and media after Formula 1’s first race at the track. Autosport reported that Max Verstappen said on Saturday he could not identify an overtaking opportunity, while RaceFans reported drivers pushed for layout changes after Sunday’s race and said the much-publicised Monumental corner did not meet expectations.

Autosport also reported that Madrid’s first weekend produced several technical talking points, including stronger grip than some teams expected, high tyre degradation and a very long pitlane that could affect strategy. Motorsport.com reported that Williams team principal James Vowles still sees potential in the event despite the calls for revisions.
