Lawson draws praise after 2026 Dutch GP run

Reports from Zandvoort said Liam Lawson finished seventh from eighth for Red Bull and left team figures encouraged after his stand-in Dutch GP outing.

Liam Lawson was reported to have made a positive impression in a stand-in outing for Red Bull at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix. Motorsport.com reported that the New Zealander finished seventh after starting eighth at Zandvoort, while Autosport noted the weekend had added significance because the circuit was also the site of his Formula 1 debut in 2023, when he stepped in within the Red Bull system after a hand injury to another driver.

Motorsport.com also reported that Lawson felt more comfortable in this appearance than in his previous spell with Red Bull, although he said the cars were not directly comparable. The same outlet said team boss Laurent Mekies was pleased with what Lawson delivered across the weekend.

Lawson, born on 11 February 2002, was ninth in the 2026 drivers' championship on 49 points going into the event. The Dutch Grand Prix added to a Formula 1 career tally of 44 starts from 2023 to 2026 across three teams.
