Japanese Grand Prix 2024: Verstappen seals Suzuka win
Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix 2024 from pole at Suzuka by 12.535s from Sergio Pérez, extending his drivers' championship lead to 77 points.
Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix on 7 April 2024 at Suzuka Circuit, finishing 12.535 seconds ahead of Sergio Pérez. The Red Bull driver started from pole position and also set the fastest lap on lap 50 with a 1:33.706.
Race
Pérez started second and finished second for a Red Bull one-two, while Carlos Sainz took third for Ferrari after starting fourth on the grid. Charles Leclerc gained four places from eighth on the grid to finish fourth, and Lando Norris dropped from third on the grid to fifth for McLaren.
Fernando Alonso finished sixth for Aston Martin after starting fifth, while George Russell moved from ninth on the grid to seventh for Mercedes. Oscar Piastri took eighth for McLaren from sixth on the grid, Lewis Hamilton finished ninth after starting seventh, and Yuki Tsunoda was classified 10th for RB F1 Team as the last points scorer and was lapped.
Championship
Verstappen collected 26 points for the win and led the drivers' championship after round 4 on 77 points. Pérez left Suzuka second in the standings on 64 points, while Leclerc held third on 59 points after his climb to fourth in the race.
