Japanese Grand Prix 2024: Verstappen takes pole
Max Verstappen took pole for the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, beating Sergio Pérez by 0.066s as Red Bull locked out the front row.
Max Verstappen took pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix on 7 April 2024 at Suzuka Circuit with a Q3 lap of 1:28.197. Sergio Pérez qualified second for Red Bull, 0.066s slower on 1:28.263, as the team secured the front row for round 4.
Qualifying
Lando Norris placed third for McLaren with a 1:28.489 in Q3. Carlos Sainz took fourth for Ferrari on 1:28.682, and Fernando Alonso followed in fifth for Aston Martin on 1:28.686.
Oscar Piastri put the second McLaren sixth with a 1:28.760. Lewis Hamilton qualified seventh for Mercedes on 1:28.766, while Charles Leclerc took eighth for Ferrari with a 1:28.786.
Front row
Verstappen led all three segments for Red Bull with times of 1:28.866 in Q1, 1:28.740 in Q2 and 1:28.197 in Q3. Pérez stayed close through the session with a 1:29.303 in Q1, a 1:28.752 in Q2 and a 1:28.263 in Q3.
Top 10
George Russell qualified ninth for Mercedes with a 1:29.008 in Q3 after laps of 1:29.799 in Q1 and 1:29.140 in Q2. Yuki Tsunoda completed the top 10 for RB F1 Team with a 1:29.413 in Q3 after reaching the final segment from 1:29.775 in Q1 and 1:29.417 in Q2.
