Italian Grand Prix 2026: Gasly grabs Monza pole
Pierre Gasly took pole for the Italian Grand Prix 2026 at Monza with a 1:21.786, beating George Russell by 0.060s as Ferrari locked out row three.
Pierre Gasly took pole position for the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on 6 September 2026, round 13 of the season. The Alpine F1 Team driver set 1:21.786 in Q3 and beat George Russell by 0.060s.
Qualifying
Oscar Piastri qualified third for McLaren with a Q3 lap of 1:21.966. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton put Ferrari fourth and fifth with 1:22.004 and 1:22.011.
Max Verstappen qualified sixth for Red Bull on 1:22.070, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli took seventh for Mercedes with 1:22.093. Franco Colapinto placed eighth for Alpine F1 Team on 1:22.220, Lando Norris was ninth for McLaren on 1:22.256, and Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10 for RB F1 Team with 1:22.286.
Front row
Russell secured second for Mercedes after laps of 1:22.779 in Q1, 1:22.161 in Q2 and 1:21.846 in Q3. Gasly reached Q3 with 1:22.612 in Q1 and 1:22.077 in Q2 before his pole lap of 1:21.786.
Piastri followed the front row from third after 1:22.924 in Q1 and 1:22.017 in Q2. Behind him, Leclerc progressed with 1:22.902 and 1:22.509 before taking fourth, while Hamilton moved through on 1:22.847 and 1:22.516 before qualifying fifth.
Ferrari at Monza
Ferrari placed both cars in the top five at Monza, with Leclerc fourth and Hamilton fifth. Leclerc's 1:22.004 left him 0.007s ahead of Hamilton's 1:22.011 in Q3.
The top 10 grid for the Italian Grand Prix therefore lined up as Gasly, Russell, Piastri, Leclerc, Hamilton, Verstappen, Antonelli, Colapinto, Norris and Lindblad. Alpine F1 Team put two cars in that group with Gasly on pole and Colapinto eighth.
