Max Verstappen secured Italian Grand Prix 2025 pole at Monza by 0.077s from Lando Norris, with McLaren placing Norris and Oscar Piastri in the top three.
Max Verstappen took pole position for the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza with a Q3 lap of 1:18.792, 0.077s clear of Lando Norris. Lando Norris qualified second for McLaren on 1:18.869, while Oscar Piastri made it two McLarens in the top three with a 1:18.982.
Qualifying
Verstappen led the session for Red Bull with Q1, Q2 and Q3 times of 1:19.455, 1:19.140 and 1:18.792. Norris improved from 1:19.517 in Q1 to 1:19.293 in Q2 and 1:18.869 in Q3, leaving him 0.077s from pole at round 16 of the 2025 season.
Piastri qualified third for McLaren and finished 0.190s off Verstappen's pole time after a 1:18.982 in Q3. Charles Leclerc took fourth for Ferrari with 1:19.007, and Lewis Hamilton joined him in the top five for Ferrari with 1:19.124.
Top 10 at Monza
George Russell qualified sixth for Mercedes on 1:19.157, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli seventh on 1:19.200 in the second Mercedes. Gabriel Bortoleto put Sauber eighth with a 1:19.390, Fernando Alonso took ninth for Aston Martin on 1:19.424, and Yuki Tsunoda completed the top 10 for Red Bull with 1:19.519.
Grid impact
All top-10 drivers reached Q3 at Monza, with Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes each placing two cars in the final segment. The front five on the grid were Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Leclerc and Hamilton, with Russell, Antonelli, Bortoleto, Alonso and Tsunoda lining up behind them.
