Lando Norris took Italian Grand Prix 2024 qualifying at Monza with a 1:19.327, leading a McLaren front row as Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull filled the top 10.

Lando Norris took pole position for McLaren at the Italian Grand Prix with a 1:19.327 lap in Q3, beating Oscar Piastri by 0.109s at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. George Russell qualified third for Mercedes, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz placing Ferrari fourth and fifth for round 16 on 1 September 2024.

Qualifying

Norris led the session for McLaren with Q1, Q2 and Q3 times of 1:19.911, 1:19.727 and 1:19.327. Piastri secured second for McLaren with a 1:19.436 in Q3 after laps of 1:20.076 in Q1 and 1:19.808 in Q2.

Russell took third for Mercedes with a 1:19.440 final lap, 0.004s behind Piastri. Leclerc qualified fourth for Ferrari on 1:19.461, and Sainz followed in fifth on 1:19.467.

Top 10 at Monza

Lewis Hamilton placed sixth for Mercedes with a 1:19.513 in Q3 after setting 1:19.641 in Q2. Max Verstappen qualified seventh for Red Bull with a 1:20.022, while Sergio Pérez took eighth for Red Bull with a 1:20.062.

Alexander Albon completed the top nine for Williams with a 1:20.299 in Q3. Nico Hülkenberg secured 10th for Haas F1 Team with a 1:20.339, putting six teams into the first five rows of the grid.

Grid implications

McLaren locked out the front row with Norris on pole and Piastri alongside him for Sunday's start at Monza. Mercedes filled third and sixth, Ferrari held fourth and fifth, and Red Bull lined up seventh and eighth from the qualifying result.
