Hungarian GP 2026: upgrades, repairs and pole report

News - 2026-08-03 - By Jenny Marsh

BBC Sport and Autosport reported a busy Hungarian GP build-up: Norris on pole, Ferrari quick in practice, Aston Martin upgrades and track repairs.

BBC Sport reported that Lando Norris took his first grand prix pole position of 2026 in Hungary, with Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli also given grid penalties. Earlier in the weekend, the same outlet said Hamilton led Charles Leclerc in a Ferrari one-two in Friday practice, while Autosport reported Leclerc was fastest in FP1 and Norris topped final practice before qualifying. Ferrari arrives with deep Formula 1 pedigree, having raced in 77 seasons and won 250 grands prix.

Aston Martin’s updated AMR26 was another reported focus at the Hungaroring. BBC Sport said Fernando Alonso was optimistic about the package, and Autosport reported the revised car drew attention in the pit lane, with Adrian Newey describing the Hungary update as the first part of a broader change. The team is still chasing its first Formula 1 win across eight active seasons.

Autosport also reported that Turn 1 at the Hungaroring was partially resurfaced overnight after driver complaints on Friday. In a separate background piece, BBC Sport explained the 2026 Formula 1 tyre range, but the supplied sources did not confirm any Hungary-specific tyre outcome.
