2026 Hungarian GP grid shifts after penalties
Lando Norris stays on pole for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli took three-place grid penalties.
Lando Norris kept pole for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix after qualifying fastest by 0.012s over Lewis Hamilton, as BBC Sport, Autosport and Motorsport.com reported. Formula1.com later published the official starting order for Budapest, with Norris remaining first on the grid.
Hamilton received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri in Q3, according to BBC Sport, Autosport and Motorsport.com. The Ferrari driver arrived in Hungary second in the drivers' championship on 159 points. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader on 204 points, was also given a three-place drop for a yellow-flag infringement in qualifying, as reported by Autosport, Motorsport.com and RaceFans.
The official grid published by Formula1.com moved Charles Leclerc up to second, with Piastri third, Max Verstappen fourth and Hamilton fifth. Autosport and Motorsport.com also reported that George Russell took a fresh Mercedes V6 engine after a water leak in qualifying but kept seventh on the grid because the change did not bring a penalty.
