2026 Hungarian GP: Norris on pole after Hamilton penalty

Lando Norris took 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix pole by 0.012s from Lewis Hamilton, whose grid penalty lifted Charles Leclerc onto the front row.

Lando Norris took pole position for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, with Formula1.com and Autosport reporting that he beat Lewis Hamilton by 0.012s in qualifying. Formula1.com also reported that Norris said he was “pleasantly surprised” after his Q3 laps. It was Norris’s first Grand Prix pole of 2026 and the 16th pole of his Formula 1 career.

The grid changed after the session. BBC Sport reported that Hamilton received a grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri, while Motorsport.com’s starting-grid report listed Charles Leclerc second and Andrea Kimi Antonelli third. Norris arrived in Hungary fifth in the drivers’ championship on 103 points, with Hamilton second on 159 and Leclerc fourth on 126.
