Hungarian GP 2026: Sainz warned after Verstappen clash
Reports from Hungary said Carlos Sainz was warned after a practice impeding incident involving Max Verstappen, while Verstappen was cleared.
Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen were reported to have been summoned to the FIA stewards after an incident in first practice at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix. RaceFans reported that Sainz was given an official warning for impeding Verstappen, while Motorsport.com reported Verstappen was cleared after the review.
Motorsport.com said the incident occurred on the approach to Turn 12 when Verstappen caught Sainz during the session. In a separate practice report, RaceFans said Charles Leclerc was fastest before a car problem stopped his running at the Hungaroring.
Verstappen arrived in Hungary seventh in the 2026 drivers' championship on 91 points. Sainz was 15th on six points; the Spaniard's Formula 1 record stands at 241 starts, four wins, five poles and 29 podiums, while Verstappen had 242 starts, 71 wins, 51 poles and 129 podiums.
