2026 Hungarian GP: Hamilton grid penalty reported
Reports from Hungary say Lewis Hamilton faces a three-place grid penalty after qualifying, after Ferrari, McLaren and Aston Martin all drew attention in practice.
Reports from the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend suggest Lewis Hamilton could drop three places on the grid after qualifying. Motorsport.com reported the Ferrari driver was facing that sanction for obstruction, a notable shift after Hamilton arrived in Hungary second in the drivers' championship on 169 points.
Practice had pointed to Ferrari near the front. BBC Sport reported Hamilton led Friday running ahead of Charles Leclerc, while Autosport reported Leclerc was quickest in FP1 before Hamilton headed Ferrari's one-two in FP2. Autosport also reported that Turn 1 at the Hungaroring was partially resurfaced overnight after drivers raised concerns on Friday.
Saturday morning then brought a different order. Autosport reported Lando Norris set the pace in final practice with a 1m18.939s lap ahead of Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli, while BBC Sport and Autosport both described early encouragement around Aston Martin's upgrade package, with Fernando Alonso positive about the new parts in Budapest.
