2026 Hungarian GP: Norris leads practice pace

News - 2026-07-28 - By Jenny Marsh

Reports from Budapest said Lando Norris led final practice after Ferrari set the pace in FP1 and FP2, leaving qualifying closely poised at the Hungaroring.

Reports from the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend said Lando Norris set the quickest time in final practice at the Hungaroring. Autosport reported that Norris lapped in 1m18.939s and finished just over a tenth clear of Lewis Hamilton, with Kimi Antonelli also close as qualifying approached.

Earlier sessions pointed to Ferrari pace. BBC Sport reported that Hamilton headed Charles Leclerc for a Ferrari one-two in FP2, while Autosport reported that Leclerc had been fastest in FP1. Ferrari remains Formula 1’s longest-running constructor, with 77 seasons from 1950 to 2026, 250 wins and 16 constructors’ titles.

There were also reported setbacks elsewhere in the field. Autosport said Franco Colapinto crashed in FP2 for Alpine, and also reported that Lance Stroll suffered a suspected suspension failure in FP1 for Aston Martin. Aston Martin is still seeking its first Formula 1 race win in its current F1 history, which added context to a practice day that left McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes closely matched.
