Formula1.com reported that Charles Leclerc set the pace in FP1 before Lewis Hamilton went fastest in FP2, while BBC Sport reported Hamilton headed a Ferrari one-two from Leclerc in the second session. Formula1.com also reported that Leclerc expected a tight contest despite Ferrari’s start.

RaceFans reported Hamilton kept Ferrari on top in Hungary after Friday running, and Motorsport.com reported the team’s advantage appeared to be around half a second on headline times before adding that the order looked closer on long runs. The same outlet reported Leclerc did not expect Ferrari to keep that gap into qualifying.

Hamilton went into the weekend second in the 2026 drivers’ championship on 159 points, while Leclerc was fourth on 126. Hamilton, racing in his 20th Formula 1 season, and Leclerc, a nine-time grand prix winner, gave Ferrari an encouraging start as the Hungaroring weekend moved toward qualifying.
