News - 2026-08-02 - By Jenny Marsh

Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli received three-place grid penalties in Hungary, before Lando Norris won the race for McLaren, BBC Sport and Autosport reported.

Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli were both given three-place grid penalties after qualifying for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, according to BBC Sport and Autosport. Autosport reported that Hamilton was penalised for impeding Oscar Piastri in Q3, while Antonelli was sanctioned for a yellow-flag infringement.

The penalties reshaped the grid for a race that BBC Sport reported was won by Lando Norris, his first victory of 2026 and McLaren’s first of the season. Autosport also reported that Norris had taken pole by 0.012s from Hamilton, and that Antonelli recovered to finish third behind Max Verstappen.

In the championship picture, Antonelli remained first on 219 points and Hamilton was second on 169, while Norris arrived in Hungary fifth on 128. Norris had recorded 11 wins and 16 poles in Formula 1 before this weekend, so the Budapest result added another win to his career tally.
