Lando Norris took pole position for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix with a 1:15.227 lap, beating McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri by 0.022s. McLaren locked out the front row at the Hungaroring, while Max Verstappen qualified third at 0.046s from pole.

Qualifying

Norris set the fastest Q3 time after posting 1:17.755 in Q1 and 1:15.540 in Q2 for McLaren. Piastri reached Q3 with a 1:17.504 in Q1 and a 1:15.785 in Q2 before taking second on the grid with 1:15.249.

Verstappen put Red Bull third with a 1:15.273 in Q3 after leading the way for the session's quickest Q1 time of 1:17.087, matched by Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz qualified fourth for Ferrari on 1:15.696, and Hamilton took fifth for Mercedes with a 1:15.854.

Front row

The front row belonged entirely to McLaren, with Norris and Piastri separated by 0.022s in the final segment. Verstappen lined up directly behind them in third, 0.024s behind Piastri and 0.046s off Norris.

Top 10

Charles Leclerc completed the third row in sixth for Ferrari with a 1:15.905. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll put Aston Martin seventh and eighth, while Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda placed both RB F1 Team cars ninth and tenth.
