2026 Hungarian GP: track repairs, new safety car
Reports from Hungary say Turn 1 at the Hungaroring was repaired after Friday complaints, while Formula 1 also introduced a new Mercedes safety car.
Reports around the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix pointed to two technical changes at the Hungaroring after Friday running. Autosport reported that Turn 1 was partially resurfaced overnight after drivers raised concerns in practice, adding that some sections of the circuit had been resurfaced within the previous two years and that a hot, dry summer had contributed to surface issues.
Motorsport.com separately reported that Formula 1 introduced a new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ safety car in Hungary. According to that report, it replaced the AMG GT Black Series used since 2022 and became the first F1 safety car with fully variable all-wheel drive. Neither development was confirmed in the supplied primary material, so both remain reported rather than official here. Mercedes, the manufacturer involved in the safety car change, has competed in Formula 1 across 19 seasons from 1954 to 2026, recording 138 wins and eight titles.
