2026 Hungarian GP: Hamilton, Antonelli grid drops
BBC Sport and Autosport reported post-qualifying grid drops for Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in Hungary, while George Russell kept seventh.
BBC Sport reported that Lando Norris took his first grand prix pole of 2026 for the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the order behind him then affected by steward decisions reported after qualifying. Autosport reported that Lewis Hamilton received a three-place grid drop for impeding Oscar Piastri in Q3, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli was also handed a three-place penalty for a yellow-flag infringement.
Those reported changes carry weight in the championship picture. Antonelli arrived in Hungary leading the drivers' standings on 219 points, with Hamilton second on 169, George Russell third on 160 and Piastri seventh on 92. Autosport reported that Antonelli had originally qualified fourth before the penalty altered his starting spot.
Russell, by contrast, kept his place on the grid. Autosport reported that the Mercedes driver took a fresh V6 engine after a water leak in qualifying but avoided a grid drop, so he remained seventh for the start.
