Formula1.com, BBC Sport and RaceFans reported that the Alpine driver led the session, while Autosport, Motorsport.com and RaceFans reported that George Russell was 0.060s slower in second.

Oscar Piastri was third, as reported by Formula1.com and RaceFans. Formula1.com also reported that the result gave Alpine pole position at Monza, while Motorsport.com noted that Gasly had already won a grand prix at the same circuit earlier in his career.

Gasly arrived at Monza 10th in the drivers' championship on 44 points. Russell started the weekend second on 183 points, and Piastri was seventh on 104, which puts three drivers from three teams at the front of the grid for Sunday.
