Alpine 2026: Gasly still clear of Colapinto

News - 2026-08-13 - By Jenny Marsh

Alpine’s 2026 gains have yet to tighten its driver battle, with Pierre Gasly 10th on 42 points and Franco Colapinto 12th on 19.

Alpine’s 2026 progress has not yet translated into a closer fight between its drivers, with Pierre Gasly still ahead of Franco Colapinto in the standings. Gasly sits 10th on 42 points, while Colapinto is 12th on 19 after the first part of the season.

Motorsport.com reported that Alpine was the team to gain most from shifting attention early to the 2026 rules cycle, and said the switch to Mercedes engines helped deliver a strong start. The same report added that Alpine’s first half lost some shine as the team found it harder to keep that momentum through later rounds.

RaceFans assessed Colapinto’s first full season with Alpine as a solid start, but said it has not been enough to put Gasly under much pressure so far. The points gap reflects that balance: Gasly brought far greater Formula 1 experience into the year, with 187 entries, one win and six podiums, while Colapinto has 36 starts and a best finish of sixth.
