F1 2027 rules approved: shorter races, more sprints
F1 approved 2027 rule changes after the Commission met in London, with grands prix cut to 290km and the sprint schedule expanded to 10 weekends.
Formula 1 approved a set of 2027 regulatory changes after the F1 Commission met in London on Monday, as Formula1.com confirmed. Among the agreed measures, the maximum distance for a standard Grand Prix will be reduced by 15km, from 305km to 290km, from the 2027 season.
BBC Sport reported that Formula 1 will also expand the sprint schedule from six to 10 weekends in 2027. The same report said Monaco is set to join the sprint roster for the first time.
Autosport reported that the 2027 calendar will again feature 24 races, beginning with the Bahrain Grand Prix on 14 March and ending in Abu Dhabi. Motorsport.com and RaceFans also reported the reduction in race distance among the approved changes.
