F1 weighs race return and 2031 engine plan
F1 is targeting a summer-break call on restoring Bahrain or Saudi Arabia, while the FIA and series discuss 2031 engines and supply options.
Formula 1 is targeting a decision before the summer break on whether it can restore one of its postponed Middle Eastern rounds, with Bahrain or Saudi Arabia under consideration, Autosport reported. The outlet also said both races were called off in March and that the series still aims to recover one event if conditions allow.
Separate discussions are continuing over the power-unit direction beyond the 2026 rules. Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that the FIA and Formula 1 are considering cheaper V8-based engines from 2031, as well as a possible third-party supply option for customer teams.
Those same reports said FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Formula 1 chief Stefano Domenicali have been aligned on the idea of lighter, lower-cost engines. Separately, BBC Sport reported that the FIA approved a proposal to remove term limits for its president by a majority of more than 90%.
