FIA and F1 review 2031 engines and 2026 rules

News - 2026-07-07

BBC Sport reported the FIA approved ending presidential term limits, while Autosport and Motorsport.com said F1 is discussing 2031 engines and 2026 rules.

BBC Sport reported that the FIA approved a proposal to remove presidential term limits by a majority of more than 90%. The same outlet also said debate around the 2026 rules continues, including whether the new package could change racing at Monaco, where overtaking has been hardest.

Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that the FIA and Formula 1 are considering a different engine direction for 2031, including a third-party supply option for customer teams and cheaper V8 power units. Those plans remain under discussion rather than agreed.

Separately, Autosport reported that Formula 1 wants a decision before the summer break on whether one of the postponed Middle Eastern races can be restored to the calendar, with Bahrain or Saudi Arabia still under consideration.
