2026 F1 rules put Silverstone energy in focus
Reports from Autosport and Motorsport.com say F1’s 2026 rules could make Silverstone a tougher energy test, with drivers warning of battery limits.
Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that Formula 1’s 2026 regulations are increasing concern over energy management at Silverstone. Both outlets said the circuit’s long, fast lap could leave drivers short of battery deployment in places, while Autosport reported Fernando Alonso said the track may be “not fun to drive” with the 2026 cars. Motorsport.com also reported Alonso warned similar deployment limits could be an issue at Spa.
Autosport reported that George Russell took a different view, saying the extra deployment challenge could still improve racing, with Melbourne and China cited in that report as examples. The same outlet also highlighted Mercedes drivers lifting off just before the line in qualifying at Silverstone as an electrical-management pattern rather than clear proof of a performance gain. Mercedes, one of Formula 1’s most successful constructors, has 138 wins and eight titles across 19 seasons through 2026.
