F1 talks continue on engines, heat and calendar
F1 discussions continue on future engines, the FIA’s Austrian GP heat-hazard call and a summer-break deadline on a postponed Middle East race.
Formula 1 is dealing with several off-track issues at once. BBC Sport reported that the FIA declared this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix a heat-hazard race amid a heatwave, while the same outlet said the sport is holding two parallel engine discussions, including whether V8 engines could return.
On longer-term rules, Autosport and Motorsport.com reported that the FIA is considering a third-party engine supply for customer teams from 2031, linked to talks over cheaper V8 power units. Autosport also reported that Formula 1 wants a decision before the summer break on recovering one postponed Middle Eastern round, with Bahrain or Saudi Arabia under consideration.
BBC Sport also reported that the FIA approved a proposal to remove term limits for its president by a majority of more than 90%. Together, the reports point to an active period for F1’s rulemakers on governance, future power units and the shape of the calendar.
