Lewis Hamilton said Ferrari’s delay in moving Charles Leclerc out of the way may have cost him second place at the Dutch Grand Prix, BBC Sport reported. Hamilton finished fourth at Zandvoort, with Leclerc fifth, and Autosport reported that Hamilton later apologised to Ferrari for his radio messages, saying they were not the best version of him.

RaceFans reported Ferrari told Leclerc twice on the same lap to pit, but he did not come in immediately, which kept Hamilton behind longer than the team intended. Motorsport.com reported team principal Fred Vasseur said Ferrari had the pace to achieve a better result but did not execute the race as well as it could have.

Hamilton left the weekend third in the drivers’ championship on 183 points. Leclerc, a nine-time grand prix winner, remained fifth on 155 points as Ferrari tried to limit the damage from a race that did not match its pace.
