Both outlets reported that Hadjar is dealing with a wrist injury sustained in a gym session before Zandvoort, and that the French driver will miss the weekend if the change goes through.

Autosport reported that Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer had been alerted on Friday that a driver switch might be required, with the situation developing further by Tuesday. Lawson, born on 11 February 2002, arrived ninth in the drivers' championship on 49 points and had made 44 Formula 1 starts across 2023 to 2026, while Hadjar was eighth on 68 points with 33 starts over 2025 and 2026, one podium and a best finish of third.
