2026 Dutch Grand Prix: Ferrari calls hurt Leclerc

Reports from Zandvoort said Ferrari’s race management left Charles Leclerc short of the best result, despite pace that Motorsport.com called strong.

Ferrari’s Dutch Grand Prix strategy came under scrutiny after Charles Leclerc missed out on a stronger result at Zandvoort. Motorsport.com reported Ferrari had the pace to do more, but a difficult qualifying session and imperfect race execution limited the outcome; the same report said team boss Fred Vasseur pointed to qualifying and race management rather than outright speed.

A separate Motorsport.com report said Leclerc did not understand Ferrari’s call to pit him at the end of lap 43, a decision that reportedly reduced his chance of fighting George Russell late on. RaceFans also reported Ferrari instructed Leclerc twice on the same lap to pit, but he stayed out and delayed Lewis Hamilton longer than planned. Leclerc arrived at the weekend fifth in the 2026 drivers’ championship on 155 points, while Hamilton was third on 183.

BBC Sport had already highlighted Ferrari’s operational errors in Hungary as related context, after Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth there despite strong earlier pace.
