2026 F1 finale could move to Europe

News - 2026-08-09 - By Jenny Marsh

BBC Sport reported Stefano Domenicali said Formula 1 would finish the 2026 season in Europe if Qatar or Abu Dhabi cannot be held, with Sepang replacing Bahrain.

Stefano Domenicali said the 2026 Formula 1 season could end in Europe if the conflict in the Middle East makes it impossible to hold the planned races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, according to BBC Sport. The broadcaster also reported on its Chequered Flag podcast that Domenicali set out Europe as the fallback for the championship finale.

A change to the end of the calendar has not been confirmed. BBC Sport’s reporting framed a European finish as a contingency if either of those late-season events cannot go ahead.

One calendar change has already been reported. BBC Sport said Malaysia is set to host a replacement race in October after Bahrain was called off earlier in the season, while Autosport reported that Sepang is due to return on 2-4 October for its first Formula 1 weekend since 2017.
