Max Verstappen won the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit on 21 April 2024, finishing 13.773 seconds ahead of Lando Norris. Sergio Pérez took third for Red Bull at +19.160 as round 5 ended with Verstappen leading the drivers' championship on 110 points.
Race
Verstappen converted pole position into victory in 1:40:52.554, while Norris moved from fourth on the grid to second for McLaren. Pérez started second and finished third, and Ferrari placed both cars in the top five with Charles Leclerc fourth from sixth on the grid and Carlos Sainz fifth from seventh.
George Russell finished sixth for Mercedes after starting eighth, and Fernando Alonso dropped from third on the grid to seventh for Aston Martin. Oscar Piastri took eighth for McLaren from fifth on the grid, while Lewis Hamilton climbed from 18th to ninth for Mercedes. Nico Hülkenberg started ninth and scored the final point in 10th for Haas F1 Team.
Championship
The result left Verstappen on 110 points in the drivers' championship after five rounds. Pérez stayed second on 85 points, and Leclerc held third on 76 points.
