Chinese Grand Prix 2025: Piastri takes pole
Oscar Piastri secured Chinese Grand Prix 2025 pole at Shanghai with a 1:30.641 lap, 0.082s ahead of George Russell as McLaren led the grid.
Oscar Piastri took pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit on 23 March 2025 with a Q3 lap of 1:30.641, 0.082s clear of George Russell. Lando Norris qualified third for McLaren on 1:30.793, while Russell put Mercedes on the front row with a 1:30.723.
Qualifying
Piastri progressed through Q1 in 1:31.591 and Q2 in 1:31.200 before setting the fastest lap of the session in Q3. Russell reached Q3 with laps of 1:31.295 in Q1 and 1:31.307 in Q2, then finished second on 1:30.723.
Norris had been quickest of the top three in Q1 with a 1:30.983 and improved to 1:30.787 in Q2 before ending the session third. Max Verstappen qualified fourth for Red Bull with a 1:30.817, leaving the top four covered by 0.176s.
Grid
Lewis Hamilton took fifth for Ferrari on 1:30.927, with Charles Leclerc sixth on 1:31.021 for the second Ferrari. Isack Hadjar qualified seventh for RB F1 Team on 1:31.079, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli placed eighth for Mercedes on 1:31.103.
Yuki Tsunoda secured ninth for RB F1 Team with a Q3 lap of 1:31.638, while Alexander Albon completed the top 10 for Williams on 1:31.706. The top 10 all reached Q3 at Shanghai International Circuit in round two of the 2025 season.
