Max Verstappen won the Canadian Grand Prix by 3.879s from Lando Norris, extending his drivers' championship lead to 194 points after round 9.

Max Verstappen won the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve by 3.879 seconds over Lando Norris. The Red Bull driver started second, while Norris climbed from third on the grid to finish second for McLaren.

Race

George Russell started from pole position for Mercedes and finished third, 4.317 seconds behind Verstappen. Lewis Hamilton took fourth for Mercedes from seventh on the grid and set the fastest lap on lap 70 with a 1:14.856.

Oscar Piastri finished fifth for McLaren after starting fourth, and Fernando Alonso placed sixth for Aston Martin from sixth on the grid. Lance Stroll added seventh for Aston Martin after starting ninth, while Daniel Ricciardo dropped from fifth on the grid to eighth for RB F1 Team.

Key movers

Alpine F1 Team placed both cars in the points as Pierre Gasly rose from 15th on the grid to ninth and Esteban Ocon moved from 18th to 10th. All top-10 finishers were classified as finished in the race results.

Standings

After round 9, Verstappen led the drivers' championship with 194 points. Charles Leclerc held second on 138 points, and Norris sat third on 131 points after his second place in Montreal.
