George Russell took pole for the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix for Mercedes after matching Max Verstappen on 1:12.000, with McLaren third and fourth.

George Russell took pole position for Mercedes at the Canadian Grand Prix on 9 June 2024 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Max Verstappen qualified second for Red Bull after both drivers set 1:12.000 in Q3.

Qualifying

Lando Norris qualified third for McLaren with a 1:12.021 in Q3, and Oscar Piastri followed in fourth with a 1:12.103. Daniel Ricciardo put RB F1 Team fifth on the grid with a 1:12.178, while Fernando Alonso took sixth for Aston Martin on 1:12.228.

Lewis Hamilton qualified seventh for Mercedes with a 1:12.280 in Q3 after a 1:11.979 in Q2. Yuki Tsunoda took eighth for RB F1 Team on 1:12.414, Lance Stroll was ninth for Aston Martin on 1:12.701, and Alexander Albon completed the top 10 for Williams with a 1:12.796.

Russell reached Q3 with a 1:13.013 in Q1 and a 1:11.742 in Q2 before his 1:12.000 final lap. Verstappen advanced with a 1:12.360 in Q1 and a 1:12.549 in Q2 before matching Russell on 1:12.000 in Q3.

Grid shape

McLaren filled the second row with Norris in third and Piastri in fourth at round 9 of the 2024 season. Ricciardo started fifth ahead of Alonso and Hamilton, with Tsunoda, Stroll and Albon completing the first five rows.
